As of May 1, 2025, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has announced a reduction in LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) prices, bringing relief to households across Pakistan. According to the official notification, the price of an 11.8 kg domestic LPG cylinder has been reduced by Rs. 37.80, setting the new price at Rs. 2,892.91. This decrease is primarily due to a 1.8% drop in the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP) and a 0.22% appreciation in the Pakistani Rupee against the US Dollar. OGRA explained that international market dynamics, including fluctuations in global oil benchmarks and currency exchange rates, directly influence local LPG pricing. It's worth noting that in April 2025, OGRA had increased LPG prices by Rs. 6.40 per domestic cylinder, raising concerns among consumers already dealing with rising inflation. However, this downward revision for May is being welcomed by the public. Despite this official reduction, reports suggest that in some areas, LPG is still being sold above the OGRA-approved rates. Authorities are expected to take action to ensure that these price cuts reach the end consumers.
